Some of our customers have noticed with the moves to the new servers that there are some differences in minor things. For example, one customer had an index.cgi file that no longer executed.

Fortunately, there is an easy fix. You'll need to create a file called .htaccess that has the following text:

AddHandler cgi-script .cgi

Save it and upload it via FTP to the httpdocs directory of your account. Unless you have your FTP software configured to show hidden files, it will disappear when you upload it. That is completely normal.

Our support staff would be glad to help you if you need to get this or any other feature that you need working. Just contact support@amhosting.com for assistance.

Re: How to use .cgi files outside of the cgi-bin

I would not call "minor" a problem which makes the "Apache test Page" be shown to my users instead of my own sites.

Anyway the issue is not yet solved because if index.cgi is the only file in the directory, it's not automatically executed by the web server.
